Christianity believers tend to dislike the content in games in general.
Judaism tends to dislike games similar to Xenogears/Saga games that are said to throw the Torah around withing their games.
Lastly, Satanism believers tend to dislike games like Devil May Cry and Doom because the devil protagonists' in these games are either to be defeated or seen unworthy by non satanist believers.

I think the idea of a religious critique is very interesting in video games. For years religion has been critiqued secretly through text. Many of Shakespeare's writings make fun of royals and religion without actually connecting the dots. This is just video games joining in on the satire. I was particularly struck by the article's mention of beating up a Jesus-like figure and his 12 'apostles'.
ReplyDeleteLike one of me earlier posts on game addiction, it is unfair to critique video games on their own without looking at the world around you and realizing that almost all other forms of art have, at one point, critiqued a religious authority.
