It has now been over a month since Halo's release and there have been a total of 4 episodes for the Spartan Ops mode. For those of you who do not know what Spartan Ops is, it is a combination of the firefight game mode from Halo ODST and Reach combine with Call of Duty's special ops mode. Basically it is a brief organized killing mission that lasts about 20 mins. The game was released with 5 episodes and 5 more are being released every monday for the next 6 weeks or so. I hate this format. I feel like each week I play through the new content in around an hour and am left wanting more. I feel like its a television show. I would not mind this if each of the episodes took much longer but to release an hour of content each week is a tease. I would rather have had all 50 episodes released at once and that they were unlockable based on the level of completion. Is anybody else bothered by this weekly release format?

I do find it somewhat annoying that they are incrementally releasing content that they had already finished. However, I also think that if all the episodes were released at once then the people playing online would be to spread out across all of the various missions. It could cause a problem for someone wanting to play a specific mission online. With the current method all of the people playing online are only spread through 5 different missions.
ReplyDeleteI do not have much problem with this. There is tons of gameplay value in Halo 4 already, that is just "extra" really. I view it as episodic side story content that is very well done (the cut-scenes are amazing and I love the plot so far). I will admit, I hate how the cutscenes get to a really cool part and then end. I wish there were cutscenes after you completed an episode as well. All and all, it is an interesting dynamic to bring to gaming and I do not mind it at all.
