Came across a neat little read about 3 principles that the indie game studio "Broken Rules" swears by. Being an extremely small studio, it is interesting to think about how these ideas can and do scale up to larger mainstream gaming, and how they might not at all. The underlying theme in the discussion is simplicity, focusing on a single engaging interaction, the familiar and not the exotic, and cutting all non-essential components to the gameplay.

I think what those indie guys in the movie got wrong was trying to do everything themselves. I realize they have a vision, but sometimes it can be overwhelming and makes you miss deadlines.
ReplyDeleteIn the film world, everything is collaborative. Even a small independent documentary crew should have different people editing and shooting footage. That's just my opinion though.
